Photographer Allan Csiky works in large and medium format black and white, favoring “film and fiber” over digital techniques in his fine art photographs. His photographs are processed to exacting archival standards on fiber-based paper.

Allan’s interest in photography began with encouragement and assistance from his father, a retired commercial artist and photographer. He began his career as a photojournalist with the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era. Assigned to cover the homecoming of U.S. servicemen held as prisoners of war, his photographs saw worldwide distribution and he was honored as Airman of the Year by Westover Air Force Base for his pictures and stories.

While he shot hundreds of pictures every week in 35 mm, Allan maintained an interest in large format landscapes, enjoying the slower pace and attention to detail that weren’t possible working on deadline assignments.

As a corporate communications executive with General Motors, Digital Equipment and Raytheon, he no longer worked behind the camera, but used photographs to convey messages in annual reports and other publications. His personal work in medium and large formats continued as he moved from Michigan to New England and explored other photographic destinations.

Freed from a rigorous work schedule by forming his own communications consulting firm in 1999, Allan began spending more time on his large and medium format work. His move to Prescott, Arizona in 2001 fulfilled a dream he shared with his wife, Julie, to live in the Southwest. He has been building on his portfolio of southwestern landscapes ever since.

Allan has had a one man show in Salida, Colorado, (1991), displayed his work in a variety of venues and his work is included in several private collections.
